Recipe: Telur Bistik (Egg Beefsteak)

Currently I am trying the new routine of fasting on Monday and Thursday in month of Rejab. I don't know about you, but normally I will have special craving when I'm fasting. Teringin nak makan itu lah, inilah, bla, bla, bla...

The other day, I suddenly craved for telur bistik. I think the last time I had telur bistik was during my uni years. It's been too long! Lucky I get to go back home from work by 5pm that day and lucky all the wanted ingredients were available.

As soon as the minced meat were defrost, I started cooking and alhamdulillah I enjoyed my iftar with telur bistik and warm rice. nyums!

Telur Bistik (Egg Beefsteak)

*this serving is for 1-2 person*

Half cup of minced meat
1/4 cup of mixed vege
2 cloves of garlic, minced
1/2 inch ginger, tiny sliced
1/2 onion, diced
2 eggs
1 tbsp mayonnaise
black paper
1 1/2 tbsp chilli sauce (I used Thai Chili sauce)
1 1/2 tbsp oyster sauce
1/2 beef/chicken cube
a bit of fish sauce
oil for cooking
crispy fried shallot for garnishing

1. Beat the egg with mayonnaise, salt (*I used fish sauce instead*), and a dash of black paper.
2. Heat the oil and fried the egg. Set aside.
3. In the same pan, heat the oil. Fry the garlic, ginger and diced onion until fragrant.
2. Add in the minced meat. Stir fry until the water of the meat dried. Add in the mixed vege. Stir.
3. Add in the sauces and water. Adjust the gravy taste/thickness to your liking. Stir until the sauce is cooked.
4. Pour in the gravy on top of the fried egg (omelette) and garnish with the fried shallot.

Simple isn't it? Great for Sahur for those who are fasting too!

E/// Teambuilding (2014): The Famous Tg. Malim Pau

The last day of our teambuilding was on Saturday, 8th March...that was the day the whole country was shocked by the news on the disappearance of MH370 :(

I still remembered, that morning I was having my breakfast outdoor when my colleague Zul broke the news to us. At first, we thought the plane had crash/landed somewhere else in China...there were too many speculation!

I opt for a healthy breakfast meal that morning...after 3 days and 2 nights stuffing myself with Penang food. Konon...ahaha :D

Some groups went out that morning for last minute sight-seeing/shopping but our group decided to stay in at the hotel and chill. Me and my girlfriends went for swimming and this time we explore the slides and water playground. Time to let our "inner child" out :P

Time tu burn that fat, bebeh! :P

At sharp 12pm, we checked out of HR Hotel, and we went for lunch. This time, we had another round of Nasi Kandar before we bid goodbye to Penang Island. We had our meal at Pelita Nasi Kandar. The weather was scorching hot that day. On and off we checked on the latest news of MH370 disappearance from our phone and update each other. That was our topic of the day...

We stopped at Tapah R&R for prayers and shopping for fruits. Bought rose apples for my twinnies and some guava for my mom and mama. I skipped on the pomelo because nobody in my family fancy this fruit. After about an hour plus of journey, we arrived at Tanjung Malim. Zul suggested for us to have the famous Tg. Malim pau for tea and quickly we agreed as we were quite hungry actually..hehe :D

So off we went to Yik Mun Coffee Shop - the famous Tg. Malim pau (It's halal by the way). The corner lot coffee shop is situated at 1/3/5 Jalan Besar, 35900 Tanjung Malim, Perak...not far from the Tg. Malim exit (if you are from the North-South highway).

I was told that taste wise, the older version of their pau was much more better as compared to current but to me, the pau is much nicer as compared to many pau I've tried in KL.

We were told that besides their pau, Yik Mun also famous with their Hainanese Chicken Chop and Young Tau Foo in Soup. Oh! both are my favourites but I finally settled with some pau's and black coffee. Some of my colleagues did ordered those two meals and we got to taste 'em all. All sedap to my likings!

My gebu pau...nyums!

Red bean paste filling...sedap! :)

Yong Tau Foo pun sedap!! Recommended!

The hainanese Chicken Chop. Sedap jugak, as equal as in Colosseum cafe :)

Pricewise, I think it is still ok as compared to KL. I have no complaint on that. Definitely a must pit stop in the future if we are heading to the North. I gotta feeling my husband and kids will love it too.

Alhamdulillah, traffic was smooth along the journey back to the Cyberjaya office. I finally reached my mom's place at about 8.30pm, hugged and kissed by my three munchkins whom I missed so much!! :)

E/// Teambuilding (2014): BBQ Party by the Beach

The second night or the last night of our stay in HR Hotel was our BBQ by the beach dinner. As soon as 6.00pm, the dinner setup has started at the beach near the main swimming pool. Variety of food has been arranged except the BBQ food.

From the salad and appetizer area...weren't they look good?! nyums!

Some of the desserts from the dessert section
Spotted tapai (fermented rice) and it made me happy! I love tapai! :)

Some of the vege prepared for BBQ

Me and Nini decided to join the crowd after Maghrib prayer although the dinner started at 7pm. Senang dah solat siap2, takla terkejar2 nak naik solat bagai... As being told by the organizer earlier, we were required to wear our "teambuilding t-shirt" which is the HR Penang t-shirt. Lucky me, I co-incidentally brought along a purple inner and white scarf (actually I did light packing this time, I only brought along plain black and white scarf to match with all my attires during the 3days 2 nights stay :P). Matchy..matchy...hiks! :)

Since it's BBQ by the beach, I preferred to wear my slipper instead of shoes :)

Crowd were already there when we arrived and people already started enjoying their main course. But there's no worries for us, there's still empty seats left and there were lots of food at the buffet table! :D

Being a big eater myself, of course one serving was not enough for me. Hehehe..had few rounds of food, kalau boleh semua nak rasa! oh nafsu! :P

My barbeque portion...nyums!

Thanks Zul for this photo of us, it would have been a pitch black if it were our phone's camera. LOL!

After the dinner, we all proceed to the front side of the hotel for our must-do photo! :)

Gaya skema..

Gaya bebas..

Zoom-in to get the clear view of me in the middle.
(btw I was next to my HOD)

After the big group photo session ended, we continued with our own photo session along the lobby area of HR hotel...

posing ala2 cover album
#perasantakhingat :P

Our night did not ended there. Since it's our last night in Penang plus it's a weekend, we decided to do what girls do best - shopping! So off we went at the Ferringhi Night Market which is only 5 mins drive from the hotel. While we shopped, the guys waited for us by having massage sessions. Sedap ye kena "uli" dgn amoi2 :P

Kaki shopping! :D

Everyone became hungry again after the activities done that night so we decided to have Penang Char Kuey Teow as supper. We went to the famous Mady Char Kuey Teow in Jalan Sungei Emas at the Batu Ferringhi area cause it's nearby. It's located near the Golden Sand Resorts, by the way! Dah tak larat nak pegi Georgetown, malam minggu jam! :P

The stall

Nyums! Kuey Teow is my fav! :)

Masing-masing khusyuk layan this one funny Malay scary movie. Cite ape tah lupa :P

After stuffing our stomach and finished the movie, we went back to the hotel and rest before we make a move back to KL. Weeee! can't wait ok, been missing my munchkins too much!!

Return To Zero

Me and my ex-uni classmate, Diyana got married few months apart and we both are blessed with a son in 2009. After married, we both stayed in Subang Jaya. Although we rarely seen each other, we constantly get connected through the social media. Coincidentally, we both got pregnant again two years later in 2011. I was 8 months pregnant of twinnies when she broke the news to me. Having a boy and then expecting a girl as the next child made us both excited! Often we chat with each other by exchanging stories of our pregnancy, sharing tips on breastfeeding and exchanged links of online shop selling cute baby outfit.

After I delivered the twins in July 2011, I started to lay low and rarely stay online because I was occupied with motherhood and adjusting my life as a mother of 3. It was very challenging as I did not have any experience of raising a pair of twins. Because of this reason, me and Diyana were no longer having our frequent chatting session like we used to. I was shocked when I read a blogpost by Sue (Diyana's bestfriend) entitled; "Sahabatku Diyana" in December 2011. My heart beat faster and tears started to came out as I finished reading the post.

"What had happened?"

"What went wrong?"

I asked myself these questions, feeling regret at the same time as I didn't contacted her for quite sometime. It was the moment that I learnt that Diyana has lost her baby :'(

Immediately, I took my phone, went to my contact folder, searched for her name but when I found it, I paused. I wasn't sure of which should I do first. To sms her? or to call her? or go and see her? I wanted to say how sorry I was for her loss, sorry for not being there for her, but most of all I wanted Diyana to know how badly I want to hug and comfort her. But I was afraid. Afraid that I can't control my emotion the minute I hear her voice, or the minute I see her. Afraid that my sms will made her sad. I was clueless...

When Lifetime Channel (of Astro Ch 709) approached me to join exclusive blogger preview for their new movie Return To Zero which based on a true story of stillbirth, I quickly said "yes".

I'm glad I did.

Based on the real-life experience of Sean Hannish (the writer/director/producer) and his wife Kiley, Return to Zero tells the story of a successful couple, Maggie (Minnie Driver) and Aaron (Paul Adelstein), who are preparing for the arrival of their first child. Just as they were about to reach 38 weeks, they are devastated to discover that their baby son has died in the womb and will be stillborn.

The emotional part of the movie started on the night after Maggie and her bestfriend, Trish whom is also pregnant, just finished settling up the last touch of the baby's room when she lost her mucus plug. She called her gynae and he advised her to come for a check up the first thing in the morning. The heart-wrenching moment then came when Maggie went for the ultrasound check and later found out that the Gynea cannot find the baby's heartbeat.

This film then shows how Maggie and Aaron going through their loss; the pain, the guilt, the grief. There's one scene when Aaron making an attempt to cheer Maggie up by giving her a snowdrop necklace as an appreciation for giving birth to their baby but it was rejected by Maggie...

"It can't make it go any faster, it can't make it any better, it can't do anything" Maggie told Aaron.

This movie highlight the impact of stillbirth has, not only to the mother and father, but to their family and friends, and how communication plays a vital role in this situation. The majority of those affected, especially the mothers suffer in silence, often believing that their grief and trauma is theirs to bear alone. Here, this movie shows how important not to caught up in your own grief and it is important for the couple who gone through stillbirth not to lose each other.

For someone like me who never go through such experience but know someone who has, personally it made me understand what my friend Diyana has gone through and it is actually OK to talk to her while she's in grief...better actually, than leaving her cope up with loss alone (How I wished they produced this movie way earlier :( )

For anyone who has lost the child of their own and feels alone and misunderstood,
it will show you that many out there has experienced what you've gone through and they make it through...

For someone who haven't gone through such experience and doesn't know anyone who experience stillbirth, this movie will educate you on what is stillbirth, how challenging life is for the parents after losing their child and the healing process...

Overall, this is a beautiful movie, it is an eye opener to everyone out there and I strongly recommend you to watch it with your loved ones.

Return To Zero will be premiering next Tuesday, 20 May 2014 at 8pm only on Lifetime (Ch 709 Astro). Repeats on 25t May, Sunday at 9pm and 31 May, Saturday at 4pm. Don't miss it, ok!

To my friend Diyana,

As I said it so many times before, I'm so proud of you and Fariq for being so strong all these while. You even open up yourself and shared your experience in your blog as early as two weeks after your darling angel Suri left you. I know it ain't easy at all. Can't imagine myself in your shoes, and I felt ashamed on myself for not being strong enough to face you during your grief :( I know your Suri now is happy in Heaven and waiting to be reunited again with your family in the hereafter. Lucky you! and I'm glad that Allah gifted you with three men not only to love you, but to guard and protect you :)

E/// Teambuilding (2014): Penang Sightseeing & Famous Teochew Cendol

Our second day in Penang fell on a Friday. Since we have Muslim among us and we have Friday prayers that noon, we decided to relax at the HR Hotel in the morning and explore Penang Island after the prayer.

That morning we had breakfast outside, at the Pizzeria (because Starz Diners was full house). The food selections for breakfast buffet at HR Hotel Penang is among the best of all the hotels I've been in Malaysia, too many too choose for and all are equally good! I had more than 2 plates of food that morning...heeeee

Above: My starters
Below: My last meal of breakfast
In the middle? Secret! Mau pengsan kalau korang tengok banyak mana I makan. Hahaha! :))

Since I've ate too much and we don't have any specific activity that morning, me and my roomie decided to have a beach walk. It was bright and sunny morning (at about 10:30am). It was windy too. While walking along the beach we met few guys from Integration team were busy flying off their kite (yup, they were so rajin to brought kites with them!) so we stopped for a while and lepak with them.

Hazar flew off his kite..

We went back to the room at 11am. While waiting for lunchtime, we decided to swim again since it was so convenient. Just slide the sliding door and jump into the pool! best! :)

Ainoor and I before we jumped into the pool :)

with drinks to quench our thirst..hehe

We had our buffet lunch at noon and our clan met up at the lobby after Jumaat prayers. Our first destination is Penang Road again. This time, it's not for Nasi Kandar but for shopping at Chowrasta Market! Off we went to borong pickles/ asam (haa, this is the place if you want to find the famous Jeruk Madu Pak Ali or nutmeg pickles (buah pala jeruk) and nuts biscuits. FYI, there are also shops nearby the market so we also shopped for clothes and toys (there is a toy shop nearby that sells cheap toys from China). Bought some toys for my kids too!

In between the shopping spree, we also went to have the famous Penang Teochew Cendol which is located at Lebuh Keng Kwee, Off Penang Road. It was a small stall situated at a street in between the shophouses. As expected, the queue was long when we arrived. We met with our fellow E/// colleagues there too! Haha!

Can you spotted Amir with his big smile cause he already got his cendol! :D

we the ladies, patiently waiting for our turn...

My Pulut Chendol. OMG, it's sooooo delicious!!
Seeing this photo made me drooling for it all over again!
Wanted to order more but I was having a sore throat at that time, tak berani nak meng-over-kan diri :P

Next, we went to the famous painted walls along the Heritage Road/Armenian Street. It was hard to find since all of us never been to any of these location before. We had to google and then find our way by using Waze apps. Alhamdulillah, we were lucky to find some of the famous ones...Happy!! :)

FYI, these famous street art are painted by Ernest Zacharevic, a Lithuanian artist who transformed streets of Penang, Malaysia with a brilliant series of interactive murals. What made it so special is that Ernest rethinks outdoor art by adding something that breaks away from the 2D nature of graffiti. He uses props like old bicycles and motorcycles to bring his street art to life.

"Little Children on a Bicycle" mural

Care to give me a ride, kids? ;)

Me, giving a flying kiss to "Skippy, The Giant Cat" mural.

Actually, there is a giant rat painted at the other side of this wall. We didn't knew it beforehand and failed to capture it. Haha!

"Reaching Up" mural.

Baik kan, Kak Nadine...sambil posing sambil tolong this boy. hehehe :P

Candid of Ainoor and Nini while I waited for them to cross the road :)

The Cannon Hole Sculpture erected at Cannon Street looks funny because the peddlar of the trishaw seems to have fell on a man hole, leaving its passenger looking frustrated :P
(This street art is not produce by Ernest btw)

It was scorching hot and it was so hard to get a parking so we decided to call it a day with mural/painting hunting session. It was then we arrived at Lebuh Aceh, where the famous Ben's Vintage Toys Museum resides. It was nice to see the old toys that refreshes your childhood memories :) I still remembered how excited Aunty Faridah when she told me about this place. Even toys during her childhood are available for display there!

Next, we went to Padang Kota Lama. Since it was really hot, the guys decided to wait for us inside the vehicle while we went and took some photos especially at the historical Fort Cornwallis. This fort was originally built by Sir Francis Light after he took possession of Penang island from Sultan of Kedah.

WE were here! :D

and we were here too!
p.s: pose skema dulu before the gediks in us came..LOL!

OK, sessi menggedik started... *tutup muka*:P

Fe-feeling 'ala models
Sila jangan muntah plis! :P

Soon, it was 5.30pm and we had to go back to the hotel and freshen up because that night we gonna have our BBQ dinner by the pool. We were so excited to wear our teambuilding t-shirt (you gonna know why if you read my next post :P) and looking have our "makan besar" that night :)

To be continued...
