Late Post: Twinnies 4th Birthday

Alhamdulillah, my twin girls turn 4 years old last 7th July 2015. This year, since their birthday fell on a working day and during the month of Ramadhan, we decided to have a small and simple celebration at the daycare and with our nucleus family.

Faiqa & Falisya were so cheerful on the morning of their special day so it was easy to get them ready for "school". They were excited to celebrate their birthdays with the friends at the daycare. First experience celebrating birthdays with friends actually! :)

For them to celebrate at the daycare, I have ordered two sets of cakes from my dear friend Kak Shida from @tuttylecious. You can visit her IG page from this link. Dijamin sedap ok! ;) I purposely ordered these cakes to be cut into smaller pieces so that it's easy for the kids to take and eat.

The aunties at the daycare decided to let the children have the cakes during tea-time, since it was Ramadhan and some of the kids were half-day fasting. Aunty Anne, the owner of the daycare sent me this photo of twinnies just before they and their friends enjoyed the cakes..

That evening, me and my husband went back early than usual. We went to TGIF after breaking the fast and performed Maghrib prayer, to celebrate twinnies birthday.

After finished with our meals, I asked the waiter to take out the cupcakes which I brought secretly along to the restaurant to surprise the twins. They were excited, but quickly became shy as the waiters and the waitress gathered at our table. Faiqa refused to blow the candles (as usual), so it was Falisya alone blowing her birthday candles..

I managed to record the moments when the waiters/waitress sang the birthday song and asked them to blow the candles. The girls were too shy so they ended up not smiling at all. Instead they were staring the abangs and kakaks..LOL!

To my children, a birthday celebration won't be complete without balloons so we surprised them with the balloons (and presents of course!) at home. They were thrilled, and so did their big brother..hihi.

Alhamdulillah, 4 years has passed and I'm very thankful that both of you has grown well. May prayers for you my princesses are, for both of you to grow healthy, wise, beautiful in and out. Be a good daughter, and be a good Muslimah, ok sayang?

Mamil MomMe Event: The Importance of Good Gut Health

Last Sunday afternoon, I was invited by Dumex Mamil to attend the Mamil® MomMe event. It was held at Majestic Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. We were told to wear attire with RED elements as the dress code. The main agenda of this event was to help mothers to understand the importance of good gut health, which is essential for child growth and development.

There was a pampering session organized for the mommies before the event started. There was a makeover corner by the famous Japanese make up brand, Shu Eumura, a skin consultation booth by Kiehl's and Dumex Mamil photobooth.  :)

When the mommies let loose and have some fun...hihi.

The event started at 3pm with an opening speech by Jane Ee, the Marketing Manager of Danone Dumex (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd. According to Ms Jane, the important functions of the gut are often poorly understood. Hence Mamil®, as an expert in child nutrition, is proud to help mothers along their journey with Mamil® MomMe initiatives so that children can enjoy the benefits of good gut health. 

For your info mommies, Mamil® growing-up formulas contain an internationally-patented prebiotics oligosaccharide mixture GOS/lcFOS at a ratio of 9:1 to support and help maintain a good intestinal environment, and promote softer stools for easier bowel movement.

To speak in details about the topic, a Consultant Paediatrician of 20 years, Dr Chin Wai Seong was invited to give a presentation on ‘The Importance of Good Gut Health for Your Child’.

First and foremost, we were briefed on what a gut system is. Gut system is also known as the digestive system of our body..

According to Dr. Chin, nutritious food will not be able to benefit your child if the gut is unable to break down and absorb the nutrients. 

Children with poor gut health would experience symptoms like bloating, poor appetite, diarrhea and constipation; this would affect their physical growth and energy levels, resulting in poor growth and making them feel tired and irritable,” he explained.

Dr. Chin also briefed us with Bristol Stool Chart, as per image below. It might disgust you but actually what you see in the toilet says something about your health.

The benefits of good gut health are: 

good gut health, with good intestinal environment, helps promote softer stools for easier bowel movement
the body’s immune system is also closely linked with gut health, as the gut contains 70% of the body’s immune cells , as such a healthy gut can help protect against infections too;
at the same time, a healthy gut and good intestinal environment supports optimal digestion and absorption of nutrients , which is particularly important for a child’s growth and development.

Dr Chin also advised mothers to ensure that their children exercise regularly, increase their intake of fruits, vegetables and water and to include prebiotics in their child’s diet to stimulate the growth of good bacteria and decreases harmful bacteria in the intestine,iv, thereby supporting good gut health.  

After the presentation ended, we were served with refreshments, and there were demo from Kiehl's and Shu Eumura.

Last but not least, we have the award giving ceremony for the mommies. Some of the awards includes the "Best Smile Mom" awards, "Best Dressed Mom" awards and "Inspirational Mom" awards.

I was surprised when Aishah Sinclair (celebrity mom & the host of the event) called out my name as one of the recipient for "Best Dressed Mom" award.

Muslimah Clothing: Now and Then

Muslimah fashion is making a huge comeback in the local fashion arena in Malaysia. It is no surprise at all, as for the past few years we can see a new trend making its very own way among our local fashion lovers, especially the Hijabista.

Those days, the Muslimah fashion was more straightforward and plain, mostly the fashion were surrounded by shapeless covering in sombre shades such as grey and black. It is much more different these days, where Muslim women have the choice to dress according to their religion with the hijab-friendly clothing. They have the freedom to express themselves in fashions that are creative without of course, compromising the modesty. It's so much fun! :)

In fact, it is not that difficult to mix them all and dress fashionably like others – but of course you must adhere to the basic guidelines of how to dress modestly like a true Muslim woman. There are so many ways to adopt a little creativity without even to have crossed the line. You just need to know there are plenty of simple and workable Muslimah clothing fashion tips that do not have to cost much either! 

Just google them on the internet and in between, you might stumble on some online Muslimah boutiques along the way. For someone who loves online shopping for clothing, I have my own list of favorite boutiques online (Zalia and Dreamyza to name a few!) and for me, the best Muslimah online boutique in Malaysia should have these two popular Muslimah clothing must-have:

i) Hijab

Hijab is one of the basic essentials for modern hijabista. Pair it with your favourite Muslimah wear like baju kurung moden with a pair of trendy heels and a designer bag to look stunning all day long! If those days we have limited choices of hijab to choose from, these days we have inner hijab, square hijab, rectangle hijab that you can style it in different ways or simply the instant hijab to choose for.

ii) Baju Kurung Moden

Another Muslimah clothing piece you must get is the baju kurung moden. The latest collection of baju kurung online comes in a wide variety of designs, colours, sizes and pattern and yet, still fall into the modesty category. The best part is, the modern baju kurung these days can be mixed and matched with skirts or pants for a more casual look. How awesome is that? ;)

Recipe: Kam Heong Crab

We had a family gathering cum Iftar with my family on the first week of Ramadhan (yes, this is a LONG DUE post..hehe :P) and I decided to bring some dishes as well, sort of potluck. I made Kam Heong Crab and Strawberry Chocolate Pudding.

For the first time in my life, I cooked crab. Haha. Not that I dislike it, but it's just something that I/hubby wants to eat. So usually, when we craving for it we just head on to the nearest seafood restaurant and order :P

But my mom LOVES crab and because of her (and because I love her mucho) I finally cooked crabs. Glad everyone loves it, including my new brother-in-laws. Ok dah pass lepas ni boleh masak utk mertua plak. Hihi.. :)

My second cousin requested the recipe on IG, so Aqilah here it goes...(sorry for being this late!! huhu)


2 Crabs; cut into pieces for each crab
2 Tbsp Dried Shrimps, soaked and drained
3 Shallots, chopped
4 Cloves Garlic, chopped
8 Bird’s Eye Chilies (cili api), chopped - optional, if you like it spicy
Curry Leaves
2 Tbsp Fish Curry Powder
2 tsp black pepper powder
3 Tbsp Dark Soy Sauce
2 Tbsp Oyster Sauce
Oil for deep-frying


Heat the oil in a pan, and deep fry the crabs in about 5 minutes. Set it aside. 

Fry the dried shrimps until crispy. Add in shallots, garlic, the bird's eye chilies and curry leaves. Stir. Add in curry powder and cook until the mixture is fragrant. Add in black peppers powder, dark soy sauce, oyster sauce. Stir. Add a bit of water if the paste is too dry. Add in salt/sugar if necessary. 

Lastly, add in the crabs, stir well and serve immediately.

The First-Ever PLAY-DOH® Month Celebration: Malaysia-inspired Masterpiece

When I was a child, PLAY-DOH was among my favorite brand of "toy". I just love to experiment and sculpt anything that came into my mind with these colorful modelling compounds. My husband too, loves PLAY-DOH as a child (and now  :P).

We both aware that a healthy imagination plays an important role in helping children learn through playing, inventing, experiment and sculpturing their own unique creation. That is why, we never insisted of introducing PLAY-DOH to our children as we too (sometimes), joined them with the fun...haha! and I don't mind either to do the cleaning, aftermath. It's always worth it :D

Anyway, did you know that PLAY-DOH has been here for over 50 years, and now they are having the FIRST ever PLAY-DOH Month. Isn't it exciting??!

From September 21 to 27, located at Ground Floor HighStreet, 1 Utama shopping mall, adults and children alike get the chance to create their own Malaysia-inspired masterpiece using PLAY-DOH. It can be anything; sculptures, numbers or alphabets. Let Malaysia's Colorful Community inspire you and your kids to create the best sculptures. You may also get the chance to participate in The Malaysia Book of Records attempt for the most PLAY-DOH sculptures created in a single day on Saturday, 26th September 2015, and if you are lucky enough, your PLAY-DOH creations will put on display for all Malaysians to admire. The most creative sculptures will win exciting PLAY-DOH prizes. Cool!

As a family who LOVES PLAY-DOH so much, we just can't passed this opportunity to join this fun activity and let our imagination + creativity lead us to a fun bonding session at home. It was also a platform for us to introduce to our young children what icons represent Malaysia (from our point of view), and what Malaysia is well known as/with. It is also a small way of us to appreciate our beloved country with the recent Malaysia Day on last 16 September.

Well, we started off with everyone sitting in a circle this morning, after breakfast. With the colorful PLAY-DOH compounds and other tools that we have at home, we have a fun brainstorming where everyone (and that includes my little twinnies) sharing their ideas on what sculpture shall we create. Try and listen to your child's input and I assure you'll be surprise of what came out of their mind. They are sooo creative, I tell you! :)

Next,  we materialized our ideas using the PLAY-DOH modelling compound (this was the fun part!!). Everyone create the elements or parts of our sculptures, and we will combined it at the end of the session! 

Well, it took us almost half-a-day to came up with a sculpture  to reflect what most represents Malaysia to us, and what a colourful community is to us. This sculpture combines the elements of;

  • KL Tower building - as one of the iconic building of Malaysia (it is the 7th tallest freestanding tower in the world)
  • Hibiscus - which is the National Flower of Malaysia
  • Durian, Mangosteen & Watermelon - part of Malaysian's local and well known fruits
  • Colorful people joining hands - represents the unity between the different races in Malaysia.
  • Adenanthera seeds or Biji Saga (the small red dots :D) - Represent the red color of Malaysia's flag (Merah Saga), which symbolize the courage of our people.
  • The snake added the fun, which represents that Malaysia is not a country with people and the greens, it's also a home for numbers of animals. It was Faiqa's idea and she did helped to create the snake before we helped her to create it's face :D

The best'est part of the day was not only we managed to come up with a beautiful sculpture (*ehem* in our view ya) which I don't think I can produce it alone, but to have the bonds between us during the session where everyone work together so well (read: no quarreling at all) and ended up with a satisfaction smile....

it was priceless!!

So parents, what are you waiting for? The school break has just started and it's a good time for you and your child to bond and have fun at the same time! Recipe: Kung Pao Chicken (Chicken Cashew nuts)

Assalamualaikum and Hi dear readers,

Ramadhan Kareem and Happy Fasting to all my Muslim readers. How is your Ramadhan so far? As for mine, it is exciting and meaningful because it's my first Ramadhan alone with my nucleus family in our own house, and alhamdulillah it's the first year my 6 year old son fasting on his own, without us requesting him to do so. Having all three of us to Sahur and then pray for Subh prayer in jamaah is such a blessing, when starting each morning :) 

The other day, I uploaded this photo of my hubby's favourite meal which I cooked for Iftar, and surprisingly I received an overwhelming request for it's recipe :)

So here it is, Kung Pao Chicken; Nadine's style.. :)

  • Chicken breast, diced
  • Oyster sauce
  • Corn starch
  • Cashew nuts, fried or roasted
  • Dried chili, cut smaller
  • Garlic, sliced
  • Ginger, sliced
  • Large onion, largely sliced
  • Garlic Chili Sauce ( I used Life Thai Chili sauce)
  • Chicken cube (1/2 cube)
  • 2 tbsp Light Soy Sauce
  • 1 tbsp Dark Soy Sauce
  • Spring onion, sliced
  • water
  • cooking oil


  1. Marinate the chicken breast with oyster sauce for about half an hour.
  2. Coat the chicken breast with corn starch and stir fried the chicken for about 4-5 minutes. Set it aside.
  3. In the saucepan, used the oil to fry the chicken and stir fry the garlic, ginger, dried chili and large onion until fragrant. 
  4. In a small bowl, combined all the sauces with chicken cube and some water (adjust the thickness).
  5. Add in the chicken into the pan and stir. Pour in the sauces mixture and stir. 
  6. Add in the cashew nuts, and stir.
  7. Lastly add in the spring onion, stir and it's ready to be served!

E/// 50th Anniversary - First Celebration

Early of April this year, we had our first quarterly All Employee Meeting (AEM) at the Sky Terrace & Lounge of The Pinnacle. It's our first meeting outdoor, overlooking the nice view of Sunway Lagoon and other areas from 14th floor of Pinnacle.

Unlike the previous AEM, this time all employees were requested to wear "casual  jeans" as the dress code. During the registration, we were given a t-shirt each (colors according to the sizes, hence you know what your colleague's size based on the colors LOL!!). We were also given a leaf each, and we were requested to write our wish to E/// for it's 50th birthday, posed with the leaf and submit it back to the registration counter...

and our wishes were later being were displayed on the side walls near the office entrance :)

We were then requested to wear the t-shirt that we got (explained why they requested us to wear casual jeans as dresscode). How I wished I have brought my hand socks with me on that day, I had to wear my jacket to cover my hands...tak nampak logo t-shirt. Ciskek betul :P

The AEM started with the opening speech, followed by updates from all key accounts/ division and at the end of the sharing, our Country Manager officiate E/// 50th anniversary by launching the 50th anniversary logo:

High-tea / refreshments were served afterwards and we took the time to mingle with our colleagues. Makan time has always been the best time. Heheh!
